Anthony Stacchi will be directing the next animated adventure movie The Monkey King 2023, which is
a retelling of the well-known Chinese story Journey to the West. The script was written by Ron J.
Friedman and Steve Bencich.
Along with five other feature film concepts from Pearl Studio, it was originally introduced in 2017. The
project was subsequently linked to Netflix in 2021, with a 2023 anticipated release date. Along with
Mech Cadet and Boons and Curses, the latter of which is no longer progressing at Netflix, it was
associated with the streaming service.

Along with Tangent Animation, Reel FX Animation Studios, and Star Overseas, Netflix Animation is also
involved in the project.
The film’s producers are Peilin Chou and Kendra Haaland, with Stephen Chow named as an executive
producer. On the project, Toby Chu is the composer.
