The Color Purple is a coming-of-age story about Celie Harris and the trials she faces growing up in the

early twentieth-century South of the United States. Her father impregnates her at fourteen, and when she

gives birth, he takes the kid away. She is subsequently given to Albert “Mister” Johnson for marriage,

leaving her sister Nettie, with whom she is quite close, behind. Mister beats Celie and bans Nettie from

their house, declaring that Celie would never see her sister again. Mister bans Celie from touching the

mailbox, despite the fact that Celie tells Nettie to write. Celie has lived a life of home incarceration for

decades, But along the way, she encounters a variety of powerful women whose own tales are equally

relevant to the story. Celie’s character rises after finally breaking free from Mister, cursing him in the

process, and viewers are treated to an extraordinarily joyful finale.Celie’s difficulties are sustained by

inspiring rage in sympathy and pity for her modest personality. However, the friendships formed are

wonderful, and viewers will find themselves smiling and awestruck through their tears. Both previous

adaptations kept to the same basic story themes, delivering a lifetime of both beauty and misery in a few

of hours.
