The Ghostbusters sequel, “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” featured both new and original cast members. Original

stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts returned. The sequel will

include new cast members, including Grace McKenna, Carrie Coon, and Paul Rudd. Kumail Nanjiani,

Patton Oswalt and James Acaster are also joining the cast. Dan Aykroyd expressed his desire for his

character, Ray, and Bill Murray’s Peter to be killed off in the next film and guide the new Ghostbusters as

ghosts. The return of the 80s ghostbusting crew is still uncertain. Ernie Hudson mentioned the possibility

of them being involved as mentors in the new film, but their roles are unclear.

The post-credits scene in “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” hints at a sequel set in New York City, as Winston

Zeddemore drives the Ecto-1 back to the iconic firehouse. The flashing red light on a containment unit

suggests a spooky NYC setup. However, specific plot details are still under wraps, and the cast is eagerly

awaiting more information. Co-writer Jason Reitman has plans for the sequel, and he’s teased the return

of the supernatural foe Vigo The Carpathian from “Ghostbusters II,” suggesting a potential storyline

involving this character.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2: Director

Following the commercial success of “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan signed an

overall production deal with Sony Pictures. They are working on a new supernatural script for 2023

sequel. While Reitman co-wrote the film, he won’t be directing it due to the passing of his father, Ivan

Reitman. Gil Kenan takes the helm as director. Reitman expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work

alongside his father and is passing the creative torch to Kenan. Kenan, in turn, is honored to direct the

next chapter in the Spengler family saga, acknowledging how surreal it is to have this opportunity.
