Inside Out 2: Release Date, Cast, and Everything We Know

Pixar is embarking on a highly anticipated return to the world of Inside Out after almost a decade with the upcoming release of Inside Out 2.

The announcement of this sequel took place at D23 in 2022, generating immense excitement among fans.

Inside Out, released in 2015, still stands as the fourth best-reviewed film in Pixar’s revered catalogue,

boasting a remarkable 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Inside Out 2: Release Date

During its initial unveiling at the Animation Panel of D23 2022, Inside Out 2 was initially slated for a

vague “Summer 2024” release. However, eager fans didn’t have to wait long for a specific release date, as

It was officially confirmed that the film would grace theater screens on June 14, 2024, almost exactly a

decade after the original 2015 film.

Before the much-anticipated arrival of Movie, Pixar has another major animated blockbuster, Elio, set to

hit theaters in March 2024. But after that, it’s all about movies for the beloved animation studio.

However, it’s worth noting that despite the June release date announcement, fans should remain prepared

for the possibility of a delay. The pre-production process for this animated epic encountered a roadblock

due to ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes in Hollywood. If these labor disputes persist and hinder the

film’s progression into full-scale production, the release of Movie may indeed be pushed back.

Inside Out 2 will see several original cast members returning to reprise their roles:

Amy Poehler as Joy
Phyllis Smith as Sadness
Lewis Black as Anger
Diane Lane as Mom (Jillian)

However, it remains uncertain whether Kaitlyn Dias will voice Riley, the teenage protagonist, in this sequel.

Movie will delve into Riley’s mind once again as she navigates the challenges of growing up, both

physically and emotionally.

The Plot

The events in the first movie focused on Riley, an 11-year-old girl who, at the conclusion of the film, was

12 years old, and her family was packing up and moving to San Francisco. However, the sequel will go

more into Riley’s adolescent years.

Movie actress Amy Poehler explained the story of the sequel to People, referencing a scene at the

conclusion of the first movie when Riley’s emotions are stuck at “big puberty button” and she is debating

whether or not to click it. The actress who plays Joy stated, “We do press it in the second movie.”

“At the very end of the original, Joy has that great moment where she’s like, ‘Finally, everything the way it’s supposed to be.’ Then we see that big puberty button, ‘Should we press this?’ We do press it in the second movie. In some ways, ‘Inside Out’ set itself up for a sequel and we’re going there.”

Poehler added that the movie is all about going into “the teen brain and seeing the madness that lives

inside there:”

“We’re going to have what it feels like to be a teenager, the new emotions that live inside a young person’s brain. In many ways, it was really exciting. We knew exactly where we were. We go to the teen brain and we see the madness that lives inside there.”
