Expats Trailer Out! Unexpected tragedy befalls Nicole Kidman in Prime Video

The trailer for Lulu Wang’s highly anticipated television series Expats, which adapts Janice Y. K. Lee’s best-selling novel “The Expatriates,” was released by Prime Video today.Beginning with two episodes on January 26, 2024, the six-part limited series will air weekly until the finale on February 23, 2024.

The almost three-minute-long trailer introduces us to Margaret (Nicole Kidman), an American expatriate living in Hong Kong who is reeling out of a personal tragedy. In her journey towards healing and “not being defined by a tragedy,” she has the support of Hilary (Sarayu Blue) and Mercy (Ji-young Yoo). However, things take a turn when we realise that Mercy might have something to do with the tragedy that struck Margaret.

The story of Expats, which is set against the colorful and turbulent backdrop of 2014 Hong Kong, revolves around the lives of three American women: Margaret, Hilary, and Mercy, who cross paths following an unexpected family tragedy. According to the storyline synopsis, the show “tries to interrogate privilege and explore what happens when the line between victimhood and culpability becomes blurred.”

In addition, Jack Huston plays Hilary’s husband David and Brian Tee plays Margaret’s husband Clarke in the television series. Additionally, Kidman and Wang are the show’s executive producers. Wang writes, directs, and creates content for Expats.
