There’s a Borderlands movie coming out, and now we have our very first The Borderlands movie trailer out. This footage gives us a glimpse of all of the major characters, most of which are sourced from the game, and the tone that director Eli Roth is going for.
There’s a definite Guardians of the Galaxy vibe running throughout. Maybe it’s the heavy use of an iconic Electric Light Orchestra song, or maybe it’s the ragtag group of adventurers or the mix of action and humor. In any event, director Eli Roth seems to be channeling his best James Gunn. All things considered, that seems to be the right tone for a Borderlands movie. Color us cautiously optimistic.

In the upcoming Borderlands movie, Cate Blanchett embodies the fiery Lilith with striking authenticity, from her hair to her attire, as she embarks on a quest to uncover a legendary vault filled with coveted loot, mirroring the essence of the game itself.
Jamie Lee Curtis takes on the role of Dr. Tannis, the recurring NPC scientist throughout the Borderlands series, while Kevin Hart steps into the shoes of Roland, the resilient soldier players control in various installments. Jack Black, fresh from his portrayal of Bowser in the Super Mario Bros. Movie, injects humor as the lovable robot Claptrap, a beloved figure in the franchise.
The ensemble is further enriched by Ariana Greenblatt’s portrayal of Tiny Tina, the explosive demolitionist from Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, and Florian Munteanu as her formidable enforcer, Krieg.
Though primarily recognized for his work in horror, director Eli Roth’s adaptation promises an epic adventure that remains faithful to the vibrant world of Borderlands. The trailer teases a visually stunning spectacle, echoing the game’s signature cel-shaded aesthetic. Fans can anticipate the film’s theatrical release on August 9.
