Johnny English 4 is officially getting a fourth movie.
The bumbling secret agent played by Rowan Atkinson has presently starred in three movies: Johnny English Reborn (2011), Johnny English Strikes Again (2018), and the 2003 original. Screendaily reports that this summer’s filming of the fourth movie will take place in Malta and the UK.
Although the premise is currently unknown, Working Title Films, which produced the previous three, will produce this one as well.
In an AMA on Reddit, Atkinson said he didn’t expect the series would continue after participating in one while promoting the third movie.
“I doubt it but thank you very much for implying you’d like to see another one,” he said at the time. “But at the same time… never say never.”
Speaking to Digital Spy back in 2022 to promote Man vs Bee, Atkinson explained why he thinks that his brand of more physical and farcical comedy has stood the test of time.

“I suppose it’s more timeless,” he said. “Dialogue – the way that people talk and talk to each other – does change more as the decades go by. We do talk differently to how we did 30 or 40 years ago, and certainly more differently to how we talked 100 years ago.
“Whereas visual comedy is generally about simple, human situations involving human instincts and human behaviour, and those things change far less. Also, of course, it means that you are automatically granted immunity from cultural and linguistic differences.
“But in the end, humanity shares the more visual experience than they do a verbal experience. And therefore, internationally, obviously it’s an easier thing to sell.”
