Netflix is collaborating with playwright Abi Morgan for a new series called “Eric,” featuring Benedict Cumberbatch in a tense 1980s New York thriller. Abi Morgan, known for works like “The Hour” and “River,” created and wrote the series. It’s a limited series produced by SISTER and Little Chick Productions, with Jane Featherstone, Lucy Dyke, and Abi Morgan as executive producers. Netflix confirmed in March 2024 that the series will be arriving globally on the service on May 30th, 2024.

In addition, Eric plays Vincent’s wife Gaby Hoffmann (Wild), and Edgar is played by McKinley Belcher III (Marriage Story). Additionally starring are Dan Fogler (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) and Clarke Peters (The Wire).
Eric: Plot
Set against the gritty backdrop of New York City in 1985, “Eric” delves into a world rife with police corruption, rampant crime, and the looming shadow of the AIDS pandemic. The six-part series chronicles the journey of Vincent (played by Benedict Cumberbatch), the city’s renowned puppeteer and the creative genius behind the beloved children’s television show “Good Day Sunshine.”
One fateful morning, Vincent’s world is shattered when his son Edgar mysteriously disappears on his way to school. Overwhelmed by grief and guilt, Vincent spirals into a tumultuous emotional state, desperately searching for a way to cope with his loss. As his distress escalates, Vincent stumbles upon Edgar’s drawings of a whimsical blue monster puppet named Eric.

What’s the production status of Eric?
We previously reported that production was reportedly planned to begin in the UK in November 2022. Filming began around that time and eventually wrapped by late April 2023.
The series was shot in Budapest, Hungary, and New York, USA.
