The Spiderwick Chronicles” novels are #1 New York Times bestsellers, having sold over 20 million copies and translated into more than 30 languages. The story was previously adapted into a 2008 movie starring Freddie Highmore. The upcoming TV series has been in development since 2021 but faced challenges; it began as a Disney+ project before being put on hold. Eventually, The Roku Channel revived the project in October 2023, partnering with Paramount Television Studios and 20th Television to bring it to fruition.

The 2008 movie mainly focused on the events of the first book, but it’s uncertain if the TV show will follow the same pattern for its first season. With 8 books in the series, there’s speculation that showrunner Aron Eli Coleite might adapt one book per season, although there’s no official confirmation on this yet. Nicole Clemens, President of Paramount TV Studios and Paramount+ Original Scripted Series, has hinted that the show will capture “all the enchantment that made the books so beloved,” promising fans a magical experience.
