Fans of DC Comics have something exciting to look forward to with the highly anticipated Dead Boy Detectives series making its way to Netflix. Originally planned for release on HBO Max, Warner Bros. has chosen to move the show to Netflix instead.
Dead Boy Detectives: Release date
Netflix recently announced that Dead Boy Detectives will be available for streaming globally on April 25, 2024. In addition to announcing the release date, Netflix dropped three new official images of the series, giving viewers a better look at the four main stars.

Dead Boy Detectives: Cast
The cast of Dead Boy Detectives includes George Rexstrew as Edwin Paine, Jayden Revri as Charles Rowland, Kassius Nelson as Crystal Palace, Briana Cuoco as Jenny the Butcher, Ruth Connell as the Night Nurse, Yuyu Kitamura as Niko, and Jenn Lyon as Esther. Lukas Gage has also joined as Thomas the Cat King, along with Michael Beach, Joshua Colley, Lindsey Gort, Caitlin Reilly, Max Jenkins, and David Iacono in recurring roles.
The Plot
The main characters of Series are the juvenile crime-fighting team of Edwin Paine and Charles Rowland, who are both, well, deceased as the title implies. More specific story details are being withheld, but rumor has it that the two chose to forego their opportunity to enter the afterlife in favor of staying on Earth to look into cases of paranormal murders.

Based on the comic book issue #25 of The Sandman, which serves as the series’ source material about Charles and Edwin’s beginnings, we might infer that Edwin was killed at his boarding school in the early 1900s. Edwin was sent back to terrorize the boarding school after spending decades in hell alongside other students and personnel who met a terrible death at the institution. Dead Boy Detectives: Trailer
In November 2023, Netflix posted a brief teaser for Series on their YouTube account. The teaser gives viewers a quick overview of the ghost-busting duo, introducing them as Edwin as “the brains” and Charles as “the brawn.” As the lad’s battle ghosts and ghouls and hide from Death, who believes it’s about time Edwin and Charles enter the hereafter, mayhem and humor ensue. A whole trailer is on the way.
The Director
Dead Boy Detectives was developed for television by Steve Yockey, known for his work on The Flight Attendant and Supernatural. The series features directors Glen Winter, Lee Toland Krieger, Andi Armaganian, Pete Chatmon, and Amanda Tapping. Writers include Yockey, Kristin Layne Tucker, Ian Weinreich, and others from notable shows like Arrow, You, and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. The show is executive-produced by a team including Yockey, Greg Berlanti, Jeremy Carver, and Sarah Schechter. Cinematographers Marc Laliberte, Craig Powell, and Pierre Gill contribute, with music by Blake Neely and Murat Selcuk.
