According to Deadline, Thad Luckinbill, best known for his portrayal of CIA Officer Kyle McManus, will return to the main cast of Lioness season 2. Luckinbill appeared in six out of eight episodes of Special Ops: Lioness season one. Notably, Kyle played an important role in the abduction of an informant during the first season of the Paramount+ series.

Saldaña, the star and executive producer, will reprise his role as Joe McNamara, the CIA official overseeing the Lioness program in the field. Laysla De Oliveira will reprise her role as Marine Raider Cruz Mañuelos. Nicole Kidman, executive producer, will return as Kaitlyn Meade, along with Michael Kelly, who portrayed Kaitlyn’s supervisor, Byron Westfield. Additionally, Morgan Freeman, portraying Secretary of State Edwin Mullins, has been promoted.

At the end of Lioness’s first season, Cruz felt disappointed and unsure about her mission, leading her to walk away from the program. In the upcoming second season, the story is likely to continue from there, with Lioness trying to bring Cruz back and make her rejoin the team. However, Cruz and Joe may decide to work against the program after their difficult experiences, becoming rogue agents who oppose the government’s plans. With Freeman’s Secretary of State Mullins playing a more significant role, audiences can expect to explore further into the inner workings of the government in Lioness season 2.

After months of silence, it’s confirmed that Lioness has been renewed for a second season. Along with the renewal, Paramount+ has decided to shorten the title from Special Ops: Lioness to simply Lioness for the new season. Stars Zoe Saldaña, Laysla De Oliveira, Nicole Kidman, and Morgan Freeman will all return, with Freeman now having a main role.
